An illustrated talk which tells how soldiers from Aldershot garrison were sent to fight in almost every major conflict from Victorian times to the modern era.
Aldershot garrison was established during the Crimean War and quickly became the largest permanent army camp in Britain. From Aldershot troops deployed to wars across the British Empire during the later nineteenth century, to the Boer War, both World Wars, and to many conflicts since 1945. Local historian Paul Vickers tells the stories of some of these departures from the camp, and some of the veterans’ returns, reflecting the major role played by Aldershot garrison in these wars and its importance to national defence.
