Poetry Routes Networks and Connections: A journey on King Alfred's Buses with the Hampshire Poet

Join Damian Kelly-Basher - Hampshire Poet 2024-26 - for a journey on one of King Alfred’s Buses to hear poems exploring the Heritage Open Days theme of ‘Routes - Networks - Connections’.

Damian Kelly-Basher presents poets and poems exploring the Heritage Open Days theme of ‘Routes, networks and connections’. Passengers will enjoy a 45 minute circular trip to Crawley on a vintage bus provided by Friends of King Alfred's Buses.

The Leland Panther bus will depart promptly from Winchester Broadway at 1100 - via Crawley - and return back to Winchester Broadway at 1145.

Damian Kelly-Basher is a writer/performer and facilitator who has performed around the UK, including at the Royal Albert Hall and the WOMAD Festival. He has carried out creative commissions for both councils and arts organisations and has also run numerous poetry events and workshops. His background is in public health with the NHS, and he has also worked on projects in both Central America and Eastern Europe. He holds the position of Hampshire Poet 2024-26, which is jointly supported by Winchester Poetry Festival and Hampshire Cultural Trust.

Friends of King Alfred Buses is a registered charity dedicated to the preservation of King Alfred buses and coaches and the memory of King Alfred Motor Services which provided Winchester’s local bus services between 1922 and 1973. It has over 30 years of experience of giving nostalgic rides on its collection of 15 restored historic vehicles.

Tickets are FREE, but seats are limited. Please reserve a free ticket if you would like to attend, and return it if you are no longer able to make it. There may be some seats available on the day.
