One of the highlights for me last September was the incredible Chilcomb House in Winchester. It is the home of Hampshire Cultural Trust, and it is here that Hampshire stores its special collections of Archaeology, Arts, Natural Sciences and Social & Industrial History. Didn’t quite know what to expect when I went but I certainly didn’t expect this treasure trove.
There were a group of us who had booked to visit and I think there was something for everyone. There are so many different collections from transport, to photographs, to social history, archaeology, natural history and even modern everyday artefacts. We all came away amazed. I have not had an opportunity to return yet but certainly will as there were one or two collections I would have loved to have spent more time looking at. All of the collections are accessible to individuals for research by prior appointment with a member of the collections staff, to find out more click here.
